Searching for the keyword “zombie” in the iPhone App Store will present you with anywhere from 10-30 different applications. Mixed within the hodgepodge of results lies a great game called, “Zombieville USA”.
Zombieville USA brings a side-scrolling perspective to the zombie survival-horror genre. Thrust into a town that is infested with zombies the player must fight through hordes of zombies all while collecting ammo and cash. Using money that is awarded everytime you destroy a zombie or by taking loot from the towns abandoned homes you are able to purchase new weapons and med kits. There are 15 different weapons to choose from, many of which are upgrades. For example, you can purchase a standard pump shotgun and upgrade to a tactical shotgun all the way to a full automatic variant. Some of the other weapons available also include machine guns, grenade launchers, rocket launchers and of course… a chainsaw.
In the time that I have played Zombieville I have experienced three different zombie types. The standard form possesses average speed and strength. Faster moving zombies are extremely ferocious but are very easy to take down. Finally, there is a dark colored zombie which moves at standard speeds but is incredibly resistant to damage and requires a greater amount of firepower to take down. With a limited amount of funds available every bit of strategy must be implemented when making decisions on which weapons to purchase to take down the mixture of different zombie types.
Over the course of the 10 levels that I have played so far I have experienced some slight frame rate slowdown. As action become plentiful on the screen there were times when the game appeared to freeze for a second in order to keep up with everything that is going on.
Aside from the occasional frame rate issue, I am thoroughly enjoying playing this game on my iPhone. The three choices of difficulty are keeping me incredibly occupied and are sure to challenge even the expert players. Zombieville USA is $1.99 in the App Store and will take up 14.2MB of space. It is rated for ages 9+ due to blood and other violence. If you are unsure of whether or not to spend $1.99 on this app you can try the game out for FREE by downloading “Zombieville USA Lite”.
I highly recommend giving this one a try.

I’ll give it a try tonight.
Great! Definitely give at least the lite version a try. It’s a very simple but entertaining concept.
