Looks like Verizon’s CEO has made it pretty clear that they will likely not get the iPhone until they have thier LTE network up and running. This makes perfect sense since Apple would have to re-engineer the iPhone to work with CDMA networks and that is just not cost effective. This also sheds some light on AT&T getting that extra year of exclusivity they are hunting for. Sorry Verizon folks, you may have to wait just a tad bit longer to get your iPhone on! Head on over to AppleInsider for the whole article.

Not entirely correct. For VZW to have an LTE iPhone, it will need a CDMA compatible radio to ensure calls/data can seamlessly transition amongst LTE/EVDO/1XRTT. GSM analogy is LTE/3G/EDGE/GPRS. Some VZW specific re-engineering will be required.
