Are you suffering from retro fever? Do you wish the arcades of the 80′s would return? Do you consistently reminisce about arcade victories of days long gone? If so, then you need to check out Galaga Remix. Namco’s classic 80′s arcade hit comes to the iPhone and dares to bring some retro coin-op fun with it.
Does it live up to the classic coin-op from way back when? Well, let’s take a look. What you get here are two slightly different games for the price of one. If you choose “Original” you will be brought right back to the arcade you first played Galaga in. Graphics, music, sound effects and gameplay are all here. Producing an exact reproduction of the original vertical shooter game.
Shoot your way through each stage as waves of aliens drop missles and swoop down upon your fighter in deadly suicide runs. Once you’ve cleared enough stages you can go for extra points during the bonus round to get you closer to earning that extra fighter you’ll need later as the game progresses. If you’re feeling daring, allow your fighter to be captured and then rescue it to get the “dual-fighter” Galaga is known for. Then, use the extra fire power to make short work of the enemy and blast your way to higher levels and higher scores.
If the original is not enough for you or your looking for something a little less dated then try the “Remix”. Here you get all the gameplay action of the original but that is where the similarities end. This enhanced version has new sound effects, new backgrounds and the remixed music help illustrate your journey from Earth to the Galaga System.
Fight all new aliens using updated and redesigned fighters to blast your way through stages and even earn power-ups along the way. Get even more powerful fighters with the same capture and rescue strategy 2 or more times to advance through stages even faster. Now you also get to battle the more powerful and much larger “Boss” aliens at the end of each level. And unlike in the original, passing each stage in “Remix” brings you closer to the Galaga System for the final showdown.
Namco has included lots of options to keep the game interesting. Choose from 2 to 5 lives to start with or extend gameplay every 20000 or 70000 points. Play with or without sound effects and even choose from 3 different control types: slider, accelerometer and arrow keys. All three control options work well but personal preference will ultimately be the deciding factor.
Galaga Remix has brought old and new together without excessive and useless extras or fluff. If you’re really into the classic 80′s arcade hits this one doesn’t disappoint. If you’re not this is still a good buy. The games only real flaw is in the button size as they are a bit small. Other than that hours of alien shooting action can easily be enjoyed.
Galaga Remix is available in the App Store for $5.99 which is quite a bargain for this 2-in-1 game.

I bought this as soon as it came out. I look forward to more classics to be relased
I must admit as a teen of the arcade days. I do miss arcades before they were ruined by $2.00 video game machines.
I bought this last week and was very impressed. Hopefully more will come J.
I was in shock when games went from $.25 to $.50, the price people pay now is insane
Insane is an understatement. I didn’t find the jump form $.25 to $.50 so bad but when I started seeing $1.00+ games I had to draw the line.I wouldn’t even pretend to play some of these games now.
