Using Your iPhone as an iTunes Media Remote

iPhone, tutorials

The iPhone is hands down the best mobile device for media. If you read my post on the iPhone’s media capabilities a few weeks back, you know how much I enjoy using the iPhone as a media device. The iPhone’s use as a media device grows even more when you download an app called “remote“. This little gem lets you take complete control of your Apple TV or iTunes library over the air! That means no more little infrared remotes to loose, or being in the same room as your Mac or Apple TV in order to change whats playing. If you use either iTunes or have an Apple TV, you need to get this app and follow this tutorial and open up a whole new world of ease into your life.

The first step in getting your iPhone in control of your media wirelessly is to download the app “remote” from the app store, which is free and oh so worth it!

photoFrom here what you need to do is connect the iPhone to your library, which is of course very easy thanks to WiFi! When you open Remote it will look for any Apple TVs or iTunes Library on the network, so make sure you have WiFi turned on in your iPhone settings. From there the Remote app will give you a four digit code that you will need to enter into youriTunes library or Apple TV. Once you do that, they will be “paired” and you wont need to do that again unless you add another library or Apple TV.

One of the great things about the remote is that it can control anything iTunes can, from podcasts to TV Shows, remote can do it.

The great thing is that you wont have to be in the same room as your Mac or Apple TV since everything is going over WiFi!

Good review Mike. I love Apple's Remote app. It was the first app I downloaded when I got my iPhone. Don't think any one else could have done a better job.
