I will in no way hide behind fanboyism on this one. AT&T’s data/messaging options are a joke. AT&T is so complacent in their position in the market you can bet we won’t see it change soon unless the iPhone 4G/LTE goes to other carriers. I still can’t believe I pay this much for my iPhone experience. What do you think? To much money or worth every penny to be on an iPhone.

Honestly for all that you get it's worth paying the price for the iPhone. HOWEVER, At&t's SERVICE isn't worth that price. If their data network were as fast as Sprint's, or Verizon's then i'd bow to that price but it's not even close, so in no way is their service plans worth that much.
Best have an iPhone, give up the visual voicemail and a few other small things, unlock it, and go over to Tmoble like i've done. It's much cheaper and has better service.
As I said on Twitter, on the UK it's “from” £715 for the 16Gb 3GS, plus the cheapest contract. However, that only gives you an 18 month deal, with 75 minutes and 125 SMS messages (with MMS messages included, at the rate of 4 free texts per 1 MMS message).
So we get humbled on the price of the handset, but we can regulate our usage. It just sucks that we only have unlimited data (unless you want to tether, then you have to pay), because people quickly run up huge bills sending texts here…
