AT&T Brings Turn by Turn GPS To the iPhone

One thing that iPhone users have had to deal without was voice guided turn by turn GPS apps. For whatever reason Apple decided to not allow these types of apps with the advent of the app store and 2.0 software. Thankfully Apple has changed their mind and will now allow turn by turn GPS apps! Just days after the 3.0 software release, AT&T has released their AT&T Navigator application for the iPhone. AT&T Navigator is powered by Telenav, which means you can save your favorite destinations, call in directions or searches, and sync it all with Telenav.com. Another great thing about Telenav, is that it follows your phone number. So if you used Telenav or Sprint Navigator before, all of your waypoints will be synced with AT&T Navigator on you iPhone. Check out the pics of the app below and the iTunes link to the app:

SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone available in App Store in Wi-Fi flavor, runs $29.99

Posted May 12th, 2009 in AT&T, Apps by J.

Looks like Sling for iPhone is out, but based on recent comments, it seems like it is released without a lot of fanfare or love. Now with it being only Wi-Fi it comes with another shot against it. So if you are ready to shell out for a new Sling Device and $30 for the app so you can watch it only on Wi-Fi, then looks like your dreams have come true.  As for me, I’ll just wait for Hulu

SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone available in App Store in Wi-Fi only flavor, runs $29.99 : Boy Genius Report

Remember that story we broke last month? Unfortunately it looks like our tipster was indeed correct. While SlingPlayer Mobile for iPhone is about to become available in the App Store, it only will work over a Wi-Fi connection as opposed to a cellular data connection. It also will run you $29.99. The only good news we could scrounge up is that Sling has allowed/enabled the iPhone client to work on any Slingbox, but they won’t officially support it. All in all, we’re sad to say, we really don’t see this going over well. $30 for an application you can only use over Wi-Fi really doesn’t sound that appetizing. We love you Sling, but this isn’t exactly optimal.

Well there you have it folks! Looks like Apple and AT&T are going to continue thier iPhone exclusive love affair. On a earnings call, Tim Cook and Peter Oppenheimer basically stated that Apple has enjoyed their relationship with AT&T and they have no plans to break exclusivity at the moment. Sorry you non AT&T folks, the iPhone is staying at home for a while.

AT&T Pumping up 3G by May 31st for new iPhone?

Posted April 21st, 2009 in AT&T by Mobile Mike

Looks like AT&T isn’t being too coy about expanding their current network. Is this just an improvement to help alleviate current network issues, or is this an expansion to get ready for another new iPhone. If the rumors are true, Apple has given AT&T a May 31st deadline to have their network updated and ready to roll. Head on over to AppleInsider to read the full article and make sure to share your thoughts in the comments.
